Zenit St. Petersburg continued their strong start to the 2014-15 Russian Premier League football season with a comfortable 2-0 home win over Amkar Perm.
First-half goals from Oleg Shatov and Hulk gave the hosts an easy ride for the remainder of the Round 5 encounter Saturday, reports Xinhua.
Zenit have now recorded five wins in their first five league games to open up an early lead over perennial Moscow rivals CSKA, Dinamo and Spartak.
The club's next challenge, however, is the return leg of the UEFA Champions League qualifying tie against Belgian side Standard de Liege here Tuesday.
Zenit lead 1-0 on aggregate after their away win Aug 20, and will start as favourites to return to the group stage of the Champions League for the consecutive year.
