Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L K Advani on Tuesday unveiled a book, Compassion in the 4 Dharmic Traditions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism, authored by Ved P Nanda, who taught law at the University of Denver, and has been close to the Sangh Parivar.
Advani surprised some in the audience when he highlighted how compassion was integral to the four 'Indic' religions and also to Christianity.
He said that during his political career he has spent several months in jail, including the 19 months during the Emergency in 1975-77. So there was this one word in English that he particularly liked - and that was 'release'. So he never turned down an invite to "release" a book, he added.
