The penchant of Congress party functionaries to blame everything under the sun except the Gandhi mother and son for the election debacle appears to have filtered down to state-level grass roots workers. In Uttar Pradesh, where the party won just two seats (the Gandhi pocket boroughs, at that) compared to 21 in 2009, a brainstorming session to evaluate the party's performance saw two foot soldiers point to poor media management by the party. The more imaginative of the two went further, blaming the electronic voting machines or EVMs. EVMs were a conspiracy against the party, the worker added, and should be banned from the polling process.
