Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has been a vocal proponent of the recommendations made by the M B Lal Committee, which was set up to look into safety aspects of the hydrocarbon industry. Pradhan has also pushed for their implementation at every opportunity. At a safety summit involving the sector, Pradhan explained why he endorsed the report with such vigour. He said, “The Lal Committee report is the Gita of India’s hydrocarbon sector.” He added that of the 118 recommendations by the committee, the government had so far implemented 110.
