In these recessionary times, it’s not unusual for universities to advise their graduating class to keep their expectations in check, to take the first job offered, not to negotiate too much on salaries, and so on. But it was surprising to see a US university sending letters to the class that had already graduated, advising them to take whatever job came their way — it’s a tough world out there, was the message, so if you get a job offer, grab it … Of course, it’s an open question as to whether any of the graduating class was so clueless as to not know that.
