Lalu's betrayal, Left's unity

The overzealous CPI went ahead and announced it would form an alliance with Lalu Prasad's Rashtriya Janata Dal for the upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar even as its big brother, the CPI(M), kept all options open. Now, after repeated "betrayals" by Prasad in Parliament, the CPI has taken a U-turn. The party has decided not to join hands with Prasad and to forge an alliance of the three Left parties, the CPI(M), the CPI and the CPI(ML). Bihar elections are due in December this year and the Left parties are considered strong in some pockets.
