This refers to the report "How to make public sector banks perform again" (November 28). It is unfair to draw any comparison between the public sector and private sector banks. There is also a misconstrued notion that public sector banks (PSBs) cannot match private sector banks. PSBs are in no way inferior and have the resources and infrastructure to show greater levels of efficiency. What is lacking is a proactive human resources (HR) policy. The real HR policy draws a line of demarcation between performers and under performers, so that it is able to identify those who excel. While under performance has no place, performers should be motivated to move to the next ladder of success. The crux of the problem also lies in the element of job security in PSBs that makes the staff complacent.
