Letters: Forensic matters

"You have the right to remain silent when questioned. Anything you say or do may be used against you in a court of law." We have heard this many times in Hollywood movies - the standard opening statement by policemen when they apprehend a lawbreaker. But here in India, we have covert sting operations blatantly carried out without the knowledge of the "victim". How moral is that? Besides, any digital recording can easily be doctored. How good and reliable are forensic methods to verify the genuineness of the recording? How moral is it to publish the edited version of a recording that can be made to project a not-so-real picture to suit one's purpose? If at all, the full recording should be published only after due certification by more than one forensic laboratory because even a "desirable" forensic report can be "purchased".
