Being global and local is a challenge every multinational faces. Honeywell has hit on a unique approach to this. One of its CEO-level executives, on a recent visit to India, handed out a card on which the information was also written in Hindi. Apparently, Honeywell customises the language of its calling cards for each country. In this case, though, the problem was that the Hindi translation of the designation was difficult to understand. It read: Adyaksh avum karykari aadhikari, Vaishiwok ucch vikas shetra. It was so much easier to flip the card for the English version, which read: President and CEO, Global High Growth Regions.
