'PAN' for onions

Rising prices of onions, threatening to cross Rs 100 a kg in New Delhi, have been a cause for concern for citizens, as well as the administration. Efforts are on to limit exports and hoarding, as well as to import onions. But some have found humour even in this conundrum. A meme doing the rounds of social networking sites has a vegetable vendor asking a customer her PAN (permanent account number) before selling her two kg of onions. Usually, people making transactions of Rs 50,000 or more are asked to quote their PAN.
