The expected protests against the diesel price rise were strangely absent in Bangalore, unlike other cities in India when the announcement was made. The reason had to do with protests of another kind: the state road transport corporation unions were on strike for the second day. The opposition parties always hire these buses to bring their protesters to the state’s capital. So, they have to wait for the transport corporations’ employees to return to work before planning a protest.
