Those who are aware of the political friendship between Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and J Jayalalithaa have been closely tracking Modi's latest visit to Chennai, the first since the Tamil Nadu chief minister announced an alliance with the Communist parties and said she was working towards a Third Front. Venkaiah Naidu, who addressed the gathering before Modi, went on to remind the audience that although a prime minister from the state is a good option (in keeping with Jayalalithaa's reported ambition), a Third Front would have little stability. But Modi himself didn't say anything about the state government or its policies. After all, the only common point between him and Jayalalithaa is the fact that both are disgruntled with the way the Centre treats the states.'
