Welcome break

The government issued the order to shift Revenue Secretary Rajiv Takru to the Ministry for Development of North-Eastern Region and bring in Shaktikanta Das, a Tamil Nadu cadre IAS officer, for the position on June 14. It was a Saturday, an off day for the government. The orders were received by the staff of the bureaucrats who happened to be in office to follow the PMO's instructions to weed out old files and keep the offices clean. After Takru's transfer, speculation was rife that some other secretaries could also be shifted. Many bureaucrats as well as some people in the media waited with bated breath for more such orders over the weekend, but none came. One wonders whether the government is done with the transfers or is this just a short break.
