Over 1.23 crore tax payers have filed their income tax returns online till Aug 5 in the current financial year, registering a rise of 68.3% year-on-year, government data showed Wednesday.
On Aug 5, which was the last due date, 6.92 lakh returns were filed online. The income tax department had extended the due date from July 31 to Aug 5 in view of the huge rush of people filing the returns and some technical glitches.
"Up to 5th August, 87,13,493 returns were e-filed under ITR 1 and ITR 2 which is 85.8 percent higher than the 46,90,279 returns e-filed under ITR 1 and ITR 2 in the corresponding period last fiscal," said the finance ministry.
