100 days of Yogi govt: Adityanath says law and order, farmers are priority

He also released a booklet titled 100 din Vishwas ke summarising achievements of his 100-day rule

Apparently stung by the rising criticism on poor law and order during his first 100 days in office, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday blamed the alleged misrule over the last 15 years under successive regimes for the rot facing the country’s most populous state.

Addressing the media with his council of ministers, Adityanath claimed the people of the state, especially youth were paying the price of the “misrule” dispensed during the last 15 years.

Further, he noted 100 days was quite small a timeframe, yet his government had accepted the big challenge to develop UP out of the limited financial resources at its disposal. He also released a booklet titled ‘100 din Vishwas ke’ (100 days of trust) summarising the “achievements” of his 100-day rule.

Over the last few weeks, the rising spiral of criminal incidents, including incidents such as murders, rapes, armed robberies, burglaries, road holdups etc has pushed the Adityanath government to the corner. 

The alleged lax policing has been earning the brickbats for the government, which had come to power on the promise of providing an efficient rule.

Congress leader Akhilesh Pratap Singh said Adityanath had failed on all fronts, law and order being the most prominent. “The state government has belied the expectations of the people, be it law and order, agriculture, employment, youth, power and industry. The crime is spiralling and ministers are blowing their own trumpets. The regime has nothing to show as achievements in its first 100 days,” he said.

Meanwhile, Adityanath, without taking the name of the previous Samajwadi Party (SP) rule, said their rule was known for bad law and order, corruption and nepotism, while the new dispensation totally bipartisan. “We have fixed the responsibility of officials for the speedier economic growth of all the sections of society.”

He referred to the BJP catchphrase of ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas’ to underline his commitment towards social welfare through proactive and pro-people policies.

“UP is primarily agro-based economy and unless villages and farmers are prosperous, the state cannot develop. As such, farmers are our priority and we are committed to providing them with seed and fertiliser apart from lucrative prices for farm produce,” Adityanath added.

Commenting on law and order, he said the government had rolled out an anti-land mafia campaign under which so far over 5,000 hectares of land had been freed in the state.

He referred to the proposed Jewar airport in Greater Noida, which has been given in principle approval by the Centre and would entail an investment of roughly Rs 20,000 crore to develop another airport in the national capital region (NCR) to decongest the New Delhi airport in future.

Meanwhile, former UP chief secretary Atul Kumar Gupta said he was optimistic of the Yogi government delivering. “I feel the government has its priorities in place and it has a definite action plan. Yet, I also feel the dispensation has still not been able to put in place its core group of officials to achieving those goals, as they are the people to actually execute the policies and roadmap.”
