Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day state visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on Monday projected India as “a land of many opportunities” before investors from that country.

Addressing an investors’ meet, Modi said: “India is a land of many opportunities. The country’s 1.25 billion people are not a market; they are a great source of strength.”

Remarking that the UAE’s power and India’s potential could make the dream of an Asian Century a reality, the PM said: “Infrastructure development and real estate offer tremendous opportunities for UAE businesses in India. We have got legacy problems — kickstarting things stalled due to indecisiveness and lethargy of past governments is our priority.”

Here are the 5 key things Modi said in his speech on Monday:

1. There are innumerable flights between India and UAE, but it took an Indian prime minister 34 years to come here.

2. I will send my commerce minister to try and find solutions to the problems faced by some UAE investors.

3. Infrastructure development and real estate offer tremendous opportunities for UAE businesses in India

4. India has never tapped the potential of tourism; there is a lot of possibility in the hospitality industry

5. In the agriculture sector, we need cold storage and warehousing networks. UAE businesses have an advantage there.

He also said there was an immediate potential for $1 trillion worth of investments in India and the country had got a decisive and stable government.

Later in the day, Modi will address Indians working in UAE at the Dubai cricket stadium, where around 50,000 people have registered to attend.
