The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday decided to drop around a dozen members from three Parliamentary panels for low attendance.

The move comes after warnings were issued to its members to attend at least 50% of the meetings of the panels, failing which they would be shifted out and replaced by others.

The party used attendance record for meetings as a criterion to assess its members of parliament (MPs) work in different committees, The Times of India reported. Six MPs were removed from the Estimates Committee and three each from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and the Committee on Public Undertakings (COPU), the report added.

"We have decided to give new members to the committee since some members did not have the time, and the party needed to be represented properly in these committees," said Venkaiah Naidu, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs
