The Congress is considering taking legal recourse against Gujarat government over the issue of alleged allotment of 250 acres of government land to a company allegedly run by business associates of Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel’s daughter, Anar Patel.

According to Congress leader Arjun Modhwadia in Gujarat, along with taking legal action, the party will also raise the issue in the state’s upcoming assembly session.

“We will raise the issue in the upcoming state assembly session. However, we are also mulling to take legal course. We are, nevertheless, demanding resignation of those involved in this,” former state Congress party chief Modhwadia said.

"We have also sought setting up of a special investigation team (SIT) in this matter," Modhwadia added.

The Congress has been on the attack mode against Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel and her daughter Anar Patel over media reports alleging that Wildwoods Resorts and Realties Pvt Ltd, a company run by the Anar's business associates, was allotted 250 acres of land at an official rate of Rs 15 per square metre near the Gir lion sanctuary, where the company owns a total of 400 acres of prime land.

Led by leaders like Anand Sharma in New Delhi, Congress has been demanding immediate resignation of Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel from her post.

“Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's watch when he was Gujarat Chief Minister, nepotism flourished and public land was plundered to promote commercial and business. For fair probe, it is necessary that the then revenue minister and current Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel resign from her post," Sharma had told mediapersons in New Delhi, while adding that the 250 acres of land near Gir lion sanctuary was given for Rs 60,000 per acre whereas the notified value of land then was Rs 50 lakh per acre.
