CVC received over 31,500 corruption complaints this year

As many as 31,578 complaints were received between January and October this year, as against 37,208 in 2012

The Central Vigilance Commission has received over 31,500 complaints of corruption so far this year.

As many as 31,578 complaints were received between January and October this year, as against 37,208 in 2012, 17,407 in 2011 and 16,689 during 2010, Minister of State for Personnel V Narayanasamy said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha today.

Two complaints have been also received by the CVC against officers of M/s Instrumentation Ltd (Kota) regarding non-payment of dues to Small Scale Industries (SSI).

As per Complaint handling Policy of the CVC, the complaints have been forwarded to Department of Heavy Industries for necessary action. Besides, six representations against Instrumentation Ltd, Kota on the same issue were also received by the Department of Heavy Industries, the Minister said in reply to a question.

"The department has issued written instructions to the management on March 15, 2013 to look into the matter of payment of outstanding dues to SSI units and settle the same as expeditiously. As a result of the department's efforts the outstanding of SSI units of Rs 14.5 crore as on March 7, 2013 has come down to Rs 1.6 crore as on December 4, 2013," he said.

In reply to another question, Narayanasamy said the CVC has received 593 complaints between January and October this year under Public Interest Disclosure and Protection of Informer (PIDPI) resolution. In addition, 144 complaints were with the CVC at the end of 2012, the Minister added.

The identity of a complainant is kept confidential under PIDPI, which is also referred as whistleblower complaints.
