Delhi polls: Ilmi loses by whisker of 326-vote margin

As many as five candidates, including four from AAP and one from BJP, have won with margins of less than 1,000 votes

It was loss by a whisker for Shazia Ilmi, one of the most famous public faces for debutant Aam Aadmi Party, as she lost her seat by mere 326 votes -- the smallest margin in Delhi assembly elections.

On the other hand, BJP leader Anil Jha won by the biggest margin of 48,526 votes over his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) rival Rajan Prakash in Kirari seat.

BJP's BJP chief ministerial candidate Harsh Vardhan was not far behind and he won with a margin of 43,150 votes, as he defeated Congress candidate Vinod Kumar Monga from Krishna Nagar.

But, Ilmi, also a spokesperson for AAP, could not manage a win from R K Puram seat, where she was defeated by Anil Kumar Sharma of BJP.

Another close contest was witnessed in Delhi Cantonment where AAP candidate Surender Singh edged out BJP's Karan Singh Tanwar by 355 votes margin.

At Vikaspuri, AAP member Mahinder Yadav won by 405 votes against BJP rival Krishan Gahlot.

Two other victories with below 1,000 margins were seen at Sadar Bazar and Sangam Vihar. At both constituencies, AAP candidates won with margins of over 700 votes.

The polls to the 70 Assembly constituencies threw up the maximum number of seats for BJP, while AAP came a close second. Congress witnessed a rout and three-time chief minister Sheila Dikshit lost her own seat to AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal. Dikshit lost by a huge margin of 25864 votes.

Going by the results announced so far, BJP has bagged 31 seats, AAP has cornered 27 seats and Congress managed to win eight.

Across the four states, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan won with the highest margin of over 84,000 votes. Chhattishgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh won with a margin of 35866 votes, while Vasundhra Raje Scindia's winning margin in Rajasthan was 60,896 votes.
