Demand grows for Somnath Bharti's resignation

Somnath was identified by the Ugandan woman at whose house he had conducted a raid

Rebel Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Vinod Binny on Wednesday called for strict against the Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti, who was identified by the Ugandan woman at whose house he had conducted a raid.

"See, women were harassed and court has given suo moto notice that action should be taken. Yesterday I was watching a news channel and one of the women has confirmed that it was Somnath Bharti (who harassed them). Strict action must be taken against the person who tortures women," he said.

Four Ugandan women living in New Delhi have accused Bharti and his supporters of mistreatment and illegal detention after local residents claimed the women were part of a prostitution and drugs racket.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader V.K. Malhotra too demanded Bharti's resignation, saying , "Somnath Bharti should immediately resign or be dismissed. It is not his constituency where he went at that time. Yesterday, he broke 144 (Section 144). Earlier court has asked for two cases against him, two FIRs (First Information Report) against him. If there are two FIRs by court against a minister and he has already charged with breaking 144 or so, so the man has no right to be there."

According to a NDTV report, in a statement recorded in front of a magistrate, the Ugandan national, who alleged that a group of people forcibly entered her house in south Delhi and molested her, identified Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti as the man who led the raid on her house last week. She said Bharti's muffler helped her identify him when he appeared on TV the next day.

The Delhi Police on Sunday had registered an FIR against unknown people following a court order, after the Ugandan nationals filed a complaint.

Bharati alleged that a sex trade and drug peddling racket was flourishing in the locality with the help of foreign nationals.

He had demanded that the police should take action against the offenders.
