The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday said that the Gandhi family and the Congress Party must give up its old sycophantic sayings.
"This family must forget old sycophantic sayings of the Congress Party such as 'India is Indira and Indira is India'. Their party is worried about only one family and they can't think beyond five or six individuals," BJP spokesperson G V L Narasimha Rao told ANI.
"They want to stamp out every other stalwart in the country. They want to occupy all the space for their family members," he added.
Rao also said commemorative stamps in the name of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi had been issued for four to five times in the past.
"The names of leaders included in the current list of definitive stamps are the true stalwarts of the country," he added.
Postage stamps introduced in 2008 featuring Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, have been discontinued. The government is planning to introduce stamps featuring Deendayal Upadhyaya, Jayaprakash Narayan, Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Ram Manohar Lohia in the coming months. It was revealed by a RTI query.
The stamps featuring Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, were discontinued from July 2015 onwards. They were the only people who featured on Rs.5 stamps.
