The former Member of Parliament wrote a letter to Sonia Gandhi in this regard. He said he had earlier also written similar letters to point out party's shortcomings and its manner of functioning.
Stating that Rahul has not been widely accepted as a leader, Azam openly criticized him saying that he had destroyed the party. What he has done so far, Azam further alleged, is only experiments at Youth Congress as if the latter unit was a laboratory.
"He (Rahul) in fact destroyed it by experiments," the senior leader alleged.
He said he felt offended and ashamed when someone calls Rahul a 'Munna' or 'Pappu'.
On solutions to the problems the party faces, Azam said the party could be revived only by holding elections at all levels which also includes polls the post of party president.
Workers would feel re-energized, the leader said, and added that he had written a letter to Sonia Gandhi in this regard and earlier too but there was no response. He, however, refuted the idea that he would join the BJP.
"I am a loyal member of the Congress party for the last forty years and would never join BJP," he said and clarified, "writing letter to the party leadership does not mean criticising anyone. It is for the betterment of the party."
