Akali Dal leader and Union minister for food processing Harsimrat Kaur Badal today came out in support of BJP president Amit Shah’s view that the Congress was in despair and frustrated over the success of the Modi government and its leaders were unable to decide how they can play the role of a responsible opposition. The minister was talking at the Make in India venue in the city.

Furthermore, Badal warned that the government will not tolerate those talking about breaking India saying that action will be taken against them.

The minister’s comments come at a time when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is facing opposition for the arrest of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) President Kanhaiya Kumar. He has been charged with sedition and criminal conspiracy for holding an anti-national event inside the university’s premises.

Meanwhile, she referred the matter of putting Khalistan on the agenda for the Sarbat Khalsa (open deliberative assembly) last year. However, the Akali Dal leader said that it does not mean the whole of Punjab supports the Khalistan.

Badal also criticised the opposition for not allowing the Parliament to function. “Congress party is yet to digest its defeat and it is not ready to play a role of constructive opposition. It is obstructing the Parliamentary proceedings and the Congress party is expected to do the same in the coming Budget Session,” she noted.
