"I will not contest the elections even if I am paid Rs 10 crore or I am promised to be made the King of India," Suman said at a programme here. He had accused party men of corruption, been vocal in his support for tribal people of Lalgarh, published an album 'Chatradharer Gaan' in support of jailed PCPA leader Chatradhar Mahato and demanded a halt to the operation against Naxals by security forces in junglemahal.
Party supremo Mamata Banerjee had said that he could be expelled 'within a minute' for glorifying Naxals, but stopped short of taking disciplinary action following the intervention of noted writer Mahasweta Devi.
Suman has since skipped party programmes including on December 3, when the Chief Minister met party MPs to finalise a blueprint to accelerate development work before the Lok Sabha elections.
He claimed he was not invited. He is a member of the Lok Sabha since May 2009.
He was elected from the Jadavpur constituency in Kolkata defeating CPI(M) heavyweight Sujan Chakraborty.
