Lt Governor holds talks with Harsh Vardhan

Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung today held discussions with BJP's Chief Ministerial candidate Harsh Vardhan in an effort to break the stalemate over government formation in the national capital.

The Delhi polls threw up a fractured mandate with no party securing majority in the 70-member Assembly.

BJP, along with its ally Akali Dal's one seat, has 32 MLAs in the 70-member House while AAP has got 28 seats followed by Congress' eight. JD-U has won one seat while the Mundka seat had gone to an Independent.

Both BJP and Aam Aadmi Party have been sticking to their ground of not forming a government citing lack of clear mandate.

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal had declared yesterday that his party would prefer fresh polls than forming a government with support from Congress or BJP.

He had said AAP will not extend its support to any party to form a government.

The Lt Governor had consulted a number of experts in the last few days and yesterday invited Vardhan for discussion on government formation.

In a meeting on Tuesday, senior leaders in BJP had told its newly-elected MLAs to get ready for election in the next few months.

If President's Rule is imposed, then the Lt Governor will run the government with the help of a group of advisors.

President Pranab Mukherjee yesterday had asked the Lt Governor about the process of government formation in Delhi.

Mukherjee asked Jung about how he was proceeding on the issue amid speculation that Delhi will be put under President's Rule and fresh elections will be announced.
