Minor cases on Nigerians to be withdrawn for easy deportation

The Goa government has already deported 13 foreign nationals from different countries for overstaying in the state during current year

Goa government will soon initiate the process to withdraw cases against Nigerians booked for minor offences so that they can be deported to their country after producing requisite documents.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told reporters that the state government will withdraw several minor cases reported against Nigerians living in the state to ensure their smooth deportation.

The government, however, would not pardon heinous crimes.

"Several Nigerians are here because they are facing trial (in various offences). That becomes a hurdle in the process of deportation," the CM explained.

Their charges will be dropped and they will deported with the permission of respective judge, he said.

The government will allow the convicted persons to complete their jail term, Parrikar said.

He said that Goa government has already deported 13 foreign nationals from different countries for overstaying in the state during current year.

It initiated stringent action against Nigerians illegally staying in the state after their group created ruckus on the highway near Panaji last week. The mob was protesting against the murder of a fellow countryman.
