JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav, SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, BSP leader Dara Singh Chouhan and DMK's T K S Elangovan raised the issue of the apex court order during Zero Hour, saying that despite assurance by Law Minister Kapil Sibal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath the bill has not been introduced.
They said with only four days were left for the Monsoon Session to conclude, the government should inform the House about its plans.
"Several days have passed after the SC order. Its order has now come into effect. Today, the issue is being raised inside Parliament, tomorrow it could be raised outside also," the JD(U) chief said.
Mulayam Singh Yadav said since this session had only a few days left, the bill should be brought to negate the verdict.
Chauhan wondered whether government was backtracking from its assurance on the bill. Similar sentiments were expressed by Elangovan.
Amid demands from various parties, government had recently told the Lok Sabha that it will consider bringing a constitutional amendment bill in the current session of Parliament to annul a Supreme Court order against reservation for faculty in superspeciality section in AIIMS.
Government has already filed a review petition against the SC order. Sibal had said if the order is not annulled, the government will bring a constitutional amendment bill in Parliament.
