Shiv Sena targets Fadnavis over Pansare's killing

Says law and order situation in the state is the same despite the change in govt

Shiv Sena, a junior partner in the BJP-led government in Maharashtra, attacked chief minister Devendra Fadnavis for the state government's failure to nab the killers of rationalist and CPI stalwart Govind Pansare, even six days after the attack.

In a hard hitting editorial in the party's mouthpiece Saamana, Shiv Sena claimed that there has been no change in the law and order situation in the state despite the change in the government.

It said the home department and the government in general will have to act fast to arrest Pansare's killlers.

Shiv Sena also sung the tune of opposition parties and non-government organisations, who have alleged that there have been consistent efforts to suppress progressive movement. The party went on to add that killers of Pansare and anti-superstition activist Narendra Dabholkar have not come from Pakistan but they are from this soil only.

On Fadnavis' statement that Pansare's killers can be nabbed if the police uses their full strength, Sena asked Fadnavis to change the system instead of simply passing the buck on to the police.

Shiv Sena MP and spokesman Sanjay Raut also targetted Fadnavis and said there was nothing wrong in opposition seeking the chief minister's resignation on the issue of Pansare's killing. Rau reminded that similar demand was made by Fadnavis and other opposition leaders during the Congress-NCP regime after the brutal murder of Dabholkar in August 2013.
