The Speaker of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly has suspended all the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) members in the opposition following the chaos inside the Assembly.

The issue started with Gunasekar, a member of the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), commenting on the 'Namukku Naame' state wide tour campaign organised by DMK leader M K Stalin.

The DMK members marked their protest on this and following the chaos, Speaker P Dhanapal suspended all the 89 members of DMK from the Assembly. The action was taken with the Finance Minister O Panneerselvam, the leader of the house, moving a resolution for suspension.

Stalin was lifted and taken out of the house. Later, Stalin told reporters that the suspension was a conspiracy by the Chief Minister and the Speaker of Assembly to keep the DMK members from participating in the demand for grants discussion on the Police department, which is scheduled on August 22.

DMK also alleged that the action was taken even after its members stopped agitation following the instruction of their leader, M K Stalin. He said the follow up action on the issue will be decided after consulting M Karunanidhi, the president of the party. While Karunanidhi is also a member of the Assembly, he did not attend the session.
