Three killed in third phase of election in WB

This has taken total number of casualty to six since the panchayat polls started in the state

Violence continued in the third phase of the West Bengal Panchayat poll, as three people were killed and many more were injured in political-violence in the districts, that went to poll today.

While two lost their lives in South 24 parganas, another person was killed in North 24 Parganas.This has taken total number of casualty to six since the panchayat polls started in the state.

Reports of violence kept pouring in throughout the day from all the three districts - North 24 Paragans, South 24 Paraganas and Howrah, where polling tooka place.

Bombs were hurled outside a polling booth in Udaynarayanpur in Howrah. There was incident of rail blockade in North 24 Paraganas, which halted local train services on Sealdah-Naihati route.

Both the left and TMC played the blame game on the violence.Taking a dig on ruling TMC, CPI(M) leader Suryakanta Mishra said the present state government's intentions are clear who are fueling such acts of violence during polls. "TMC workers were active in the areas where cases of violence have been reported," he said.

According to TMC leader Mukul Roy, however, this was one of the most peaceful elections held ever in Bengal.

About 99 lakh voters were eligible to exercise their franchise in close to 12, 656 booths in the three districts of North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and Howrah in round three of the polls.
