The party announced the candidature of K Prabhakar Reddy, a local strongman, while promising Deviprasad, the other aspirant, a membership in the state legislative Council. As the chairman of the Telangana government employees joint action committee Deviprasad worked closely with the TRS leadership in the separate statehood movement.
The Congress has already announced former minister Sunitha Laxmareddy, who hails from Medak district, as its candidate, while the TDP has decided to support the BJP.
However, in Andhra Pradesh the ruling TDP has fielded Tangirala Sowmya as the candidate for the Nandigama Assembly segment, which fell vacant following the death of sitting MLA T Prabhakar Rao. Sowmya is Rao's widow.
The bypolls to Medak and Nandigama are scheduled to be held on September 13.
