Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said that those officials who were not ready or capable of working long hours under the new dispensation should be ready to pack-up, in an explicit warning to the bureaucracy to improve their work culture and shed their apathy.

Addressing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and workers in his home district of Gorakhpur, the chief minister said that the new regime was attuned to working 18-20 hours a day and only those officials who were ready to work diligently without slackness would be able to stay put.

Adityanath is camping in Gorakhpur for a two-day visit after being sworn in as the 21st chief minister of UP on March 19 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah.

The chief minister said that the party’s landslide victory had, in fact, augmented the accountability of his government to deliver on good governance and transparency.

After taking steps to improve law and order in UP by ordering increased police patrols and an anti-eve teasing campaign, he said his government would take steps to check the migration of youth to other places for jobs by creating employment opportunities in the state itself.

“I want to break the negative perception of lawlessness, potholed roads and darkness (power outages) associated with UP,” he said, adding that the changes would be visible to all in the next two months.

He reiterated that his party had not come to power for enjoying privileges, but work for the general public welfare.

Further, Adityanath exhorted party cadres to prepare for the 2019 Lok Sabha poll saying there were still chances of improving upon the BJP's tally of 71 seats from UP in 2014.

He also advised BJP leaders to stay away from award of contracts in the state and instead keep vigil on the quality of work.
