Commencement of Bharat Stage -IV fuels in Delhi

BS-IV fuel sale was commenced in India (in Delhi) at HPCL’s Company Owned Retail Outlet- Auto Care Center, Niti Marg. The inaugural sale was done in presence of Shri  Bhure Lal, Chairman Environment Pollution Control Authority, Shri Sudhir Bhargava, Additional Secretary (MOP&NG), Ms. Sunita Narain, Director,Centre for Science & Environment and Member EPCA, Shri Apurva Chandra Joint Secretary-M (MOP&NG), Shri B Mohanty, Director- PPAC and other senior officials of the Oil Marketing Companies. 

Shri  Bhure Lal, Chairman Environment Pollution Control Authority in his address emphasised the need for controlling air pollution and commencement of BS-IV sales will help this cause.

Shri Sudhir Bhargava, Additional Secretary, MOP&NG said that it is a matter of pride to achieve this milestone today. To improve the fuel emission norms, it was decided to upgrade the 13 specified cities to Bharat Stage-IV norms by 1st April, 2010. This event here today marks the culmination of that decision.

Ms. Sunita Narain, Director, Centre for Science & Environment and Member EPCA, congratulated the OMCs for this milestone she also emphasized on the need to control the no of vehicle in Delhi.

Shri Apurva Chandra, Joint Secretary, Marketing, MOP&NG in his address emphasized the importance of cleaner and greener fuels. This initiative is likely to have a major impact on checking global warming, preserving the delicate ecological balance and also preventing health problems. The launch of BS-IV fuels will further strengthen the Government’s efforts for a clean environment.
