General Motors India has registered an increase of 7% in sales in December 2011 compared to the corresponding period last year. It sold 9039 units in December 2011 as against 8468 units in December 2010. On the back of good demand for Chevrolet Beat Diesel, India’s most fuel efficient car, December 2011 performance was on track. Chevrolet Beat has been one of the top performers for GM India this month registering sales of 4796 units. The December 2011 sales of other carlines comprised 1365 units of Chevrolet Spark, 1927 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 486 units of Chevrolet Cruze, 227 units of Chevrolet Optra, 191 units of Chevrolet Aveo and 47 units of Chevrolet Captiva respectively. With this the company has sold 1,11,510 units in 2011 against 1,10,804 units sold in 2010.

Commenting on the performance, P.Balendran, Vice President, General Motors India, said, “We have been able to sustain the growth primarily due to the encouraging response to Chevrolet Beat. Other carlines like Spark, Cruze and Tavera have also generated substantial volumes for the company. However, unprecedented hikes in interest rates, fuel prices, commodity prices, growing inflation, policy paralysis at the centre and negative market sentiments have combined to wreck havoc in the automobile market. We expect the market to remain tight for at least a couple of months to come.”

Chevrolet celebrated its centennial as a global automotive brand in 2011. It is now one of the fastest growing automotive nameplates in India and provides consumers with fuel-efficient, safe and reliable vehicles that deliver high quality, expressive design, spirited performance and value. With a wide array of products and services, Chevrolet has brought unmatched product quality and unparalleled performance to the customers. Continuing its journey, Chevrolet plans to launch several new products and services for the global audience, relevant to the respective markets and customer preferences.
