Former Indian Cricket Captain, Nari Contractor today distributed cricket kits to young cricket players of Parsi gymkhanas across the metropolis.
At a function ahead of the Parsi New Year, Contractor distributed cricket kits to Parsi Gymkhana players with an attempt to popularize cricket among the community youngsters.
For this unique initiative, Rustomjee Group, city's premiere real estate company, has joined hands with Parsee Gymkhana and Parsee Cyclist Club.
Speaking on the occasion, Contractor said “Motivation is important for youngsters. Rustomjee’s initiative to distribute young cricketers will motivate them ahead of the season”.
He added “There are lots of talents in the community. However, it needs to be tapped and the younger generation needs encouragement, support and equipments. I am happy that Parsee Gymkhana and Parsee Cyclist Club along with Rustomjee Group have taken this initiative to fulfill the dream of the community.”
He also unveiled the new team jersey of the Parsi Gymkhana and distributed the cricket kit to 23 cricketers.
As part of the initiative Rustomjee has built cricket pitches at Rustom Baug, Malcolm Baug and will be providing nets and kits. Farhad and Soli under the supervision of Zubin Bharucha will provide coaching to the youngsters in Rustom Baug.
Incidentally, Parsees were first Indian to travel to England to play cricket matches in 1886. The community also produced cricketers like Russy Mody, Nari Contractor, Farokh Engineer, Rusy Surti.
