Tata Indicom supports WWF's 'Earth Hour' Campaign

Urges all post-paid subscribers in Mumbai and Delhi to participate

Tata Teleservices, India’s fastest-growing pan-India telecom service provider is participating in WWF’s ‘Earth Hour’ initiative by sending out text messages to all its post-paid subscribers in Mumbai and Delhi, urging them to support the campaign and switch off their lights between 8:30PM to 9:30 PM on Saturday, the 28th of March 2009.

For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. The campaign aims at urging the world to switch off their lights and has a target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.

Speaking at the occasion Mr Rajeev Narayan, Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Tata Teleservices said, “As part of the Corporate Sustainability ‘Big Picture’ we have identified two plans under which we will touch the communities in a sustainable manner ­- environment and education. Even across the Tata Group Climate change and conservation are the most pivotal pieces as far as Corporate Sustainability is concerned. We will not only participate in this event by turning off all lights in our office in Delhi and Mumbai between 8:30PM to 9:30 PM but will also urge all our subscriber to do so by sending out text messages to them. This is our contribution to an endeavor, with a larger goal of promoting a healthy environment, to create awareness and imbibe a culture of responsible living.”
