The inquiry was ordered by Health Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya after a Bengali news TV channel telecast footage of the group staff stitching the wound of the youth yesterday.
Senior SSKM officials said that at times when the emergency department was crowded some Group D employees who had been trained to do such work stitched and dressed wounds.
The sources said, "We are inquiring into whether doctors present at the time were attending to other more critical patients."
