High courts in Tripura, Meghalaya and Manipur

The president signed the North Eastern Areas (Reorganization) and Other Related Laws (Amendment) bill on June 7 and a copy of the signed bill was made available to the state, state Secretary for Law, Data Mohan Jamatiya said here today.

The bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on May 11 and subsequently in the Rajya Sabha.

At present the Gauhati High Court has benches in Tripura, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim has a separate high court.

Officials said, 52,000 cases were pending in lower courts in Tripura and 5,000 in Guwahati High Court.
