Campaign for the first phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections turned violent with supporters of archrival SP and BSP indulging in a clash in Hathras district today in which one person was killed and five others were injured.
Supporters of SP candidate and sitting MLA from Sadabad, Devendra Agarwal, allegedly indulged in brick batting and attacked with lathis the vehicle carrying supporters of BSP candidate Ramveer Upadhaya including his son Chiragvir Upadhaya, police said.
They also opened fire in which Pushpendra (30) was killed and five others, including the BSP candidate's son, were hurt in the incident near Manakpur township.
The injured were rushed to a hospital, police said.
SP, Hathras, Dilip Kumar said FIRs were registered based on the complaints filed by the two sides and additional force has been deployed in the area.
In another incident, two bullet-riddled bodies, one identified as the brother of an RLD candidate, were found this morning in a mango orchard near Khurja in Bulandshahr district, police said.
The bodies of Vinod Gautam, elder brother of Rashtriya Lok Dal candidate Manoj Gautam and Sachin (25) were found today a day after they went missing, SP (Rural) Jagdish Sharma said.
The police are on the look out for one Parminder, who had left the party office along with the two.
The deceased reportedly had a tiff at the party office with some people.
