1 killed in cylinder explosion at glass factory

One person was killed and two were injured in the wee hours today after a LPG cylinder exploded at a glass factory in outer Delhi's Shahbad Dairy area, police said.
"A call was received at 12.50 AM today about fire caused due to a cylinder blast and five fire-tenders were rushed to the spot. The fire was doused at 4.15 AM," a Delhi Fire Services official said.
One labourer, identified as Baape (50) sustained severe burn injuries and died on the spot. Two others labourers identified as Mahesh (40) and Kishen (25) are currently undergoing treatment and their condition is stated to be critical, a senior police official said.

Mahesh sustained 80 per cent burn injuries while Kishen sustained 60 per cent injuries in the blast. They were rushed to Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital but were later shifted to Safdarjung Hospital since it has better facilities to treat burn injuries, he said.
"A case has been registered at Shahbad Dairy police station against the owner of the factory under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 304(A)(Causing death by negligence) and investigation is underway.
"We will try to ascertain the reason behind the blast and whether the fire was aggravated due to a short-circuit. The injured are currently not in a position to record their statement," the official said.

After Baape's family arrives tomorrow, the post-mortem will be conducted, he added.
