A man was killed and a youth injured in an explosion suspected to have been caused by crackers stored in a house here today, police said.
The tiled house came down under the impact of the explosion and police pulled out the body of an elderly man and rescued a 19-year-old boy, son of the house owner, from the debris.
The sound of the explosion was heard up to the distant neighbourhood around noon, police said adding the injured had been admitted to the government hospital here.
According to preliminary inquiry, powerful crackers, stocked for the purpose of sales for Deepavali, might have exploded accidentally, police said.
Two adjacent houses were partially damaged and a dog was found dead under the impact of the explosion, they said.
