Police today arrested one more person in connection with the leak of question paper of Haryana Teachers Eligibility Test (HTET) examination from Sonipat, taking the number of those held to 11.
The accused identified as Nitesh, who runs a computer centre in Sonipat, was arrested by the Special Investigation Team which is investigating the matter, Deputy Superintendent of Police Dinesh Yadav said.
Nitesh told police that he along with his two maternal uncles, who are JBT teachers, and one of their friends leaked the paper on an especially formed WhatsApp chat group and charged Rs two lakh from each candidate, he said.
Nitesh, who himself appeared in HTET level-I exam, also revealed that his uncles and their friend had leaked the HTET paper conducted in 2013 in similar manner, the DSP said.
Pawan and Ajay, Nitesh's uncle, were friends with one teacher Rajendra Randhawa who was also HTET examination centre head of Indian Model Senior Secondary School in Sonipat, Yadav said.
Randhawa provided the question paper before the exam started to Pawan and Ajay who after finding the answers gave it to Nitesh who in turn along with his friend Gaurav posted them in a WhatsApp group - Chandni Chowk - having 55 candidates as members, he added.
These members were selected candidates who were getting the question paper in return of Rs two lakh each, he said.
Five mobile phones, one laptop and dozens of HTET exam admit cards were also recovered from the possession of the accused, the DSP said, adding that Nitesh would be presented in court tomorrow.
On November 14, the Haryana Teachers Eligibility Test (HTET) Level 3 (PGT) examination was cancelled in the state on suspicion of paper leak.
Secretary, Haryana School Education Board, Bhiwani, Pankaj Kumar, had said the next date for the examination would be announced soon.
Kumar had said that information was received through the Jind district administration that documents related to the question paper were recovered from an "external person while the examination was going on".
A total 4.61 lakh students in the state were to appear in the HTET examination including 1.44 lakh for JBT, 1.81 lakh for TGT and 1.37 lakh for PGT.
