The incident took place last evening, following which two student hostels -- CV Raman and Bhagwan Das -- were evacuated to prevent the situation to worsen any further.
"Last evening, two groups of students belonging to IIT (BHU) and Law Faculty clashed and pelted stones at each other. Around 10 students were injured in the incident," Circle Officer (Bhelupur) Alok Jaiswal said today.
"The two groups got into an argument over sharing a cricket playground which belonged to IIT-BHU. The verbal tussel soon turned violent," he added.
"Hostels -- CV Raman and Bhagwan Das -- have been evacuated for the time being to ensure that no untoward incident occurs," Jaiswal said.
Police along with PAC personnel have been deployed in and around the BHU campus.
