Police said there were 20 people in the ill-fated vehicle, all of whom were travelling to Golden Temple.
Among the dead was a 13-year-old girl, SHO Matewal Police Station, Mukhtiyar Singh said.
He said the deceased were all residents of Yadpur village in Gurdaspur district.
The accident occurred in the wee hours today at Boparai village near Matewal, around 25 kms away from Amritsar city.
Police said at the time of the incident, the MUV driver failed to spot the stationary truck loaded with sand.
The other injured people have been admitted to a hospital in Amritsar, they said.
