The fire broke out last night at the four storey Net World Plaza building in the market, which is popular for electronic goods. Ten shops, including three on the ground floor, six on the first and one on the third, were gutted, the official said.
Immediately after getting the information, 15 fire tenders were rushed to the spot which brought the blaze under control and saved at least 50 shops, said Atul Garg, Chief Fire Officer of Delhi Fire Service.
"The fire was brought under control at the earliest even as the crowd posed problems as the desperate shopkeepers wanted their shops to be saved first," the officer said.
