Delhi Jal Board (DJB) today came out with a list of its achievements, including up to 20 kl free water a month and reduction in water development charges in unauthorised colonies, on the eve of 100 days of the AAP government.
DJB's vice-chairman Kapil Mishra and CEO S S Yadav today presented the compilation "100 Achievements in 100 Days" of the Board to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia.
"I commend Delhi Jal Board for their achievements in the water and waste water sector in this short period of time. I hope the Board will continue to meet the aspirations of the people of Delhi in the future as well," Kejriwal said in a statement.
"I am confident that DJB will continue to meet the challenges of providing water and waste water to the capital and improve their present performance," Sisodia said.
In the statement, DJB said that it has met the commitment of the government for supply of free water, up to 20 kiloliters a month (about 700 liters a day) to the citizens which has benefited around 10.5 lakh consumers including residents of co-operative group housing societies.
Major relief has been extended to the residents of unauthorised colonies by reducing water development charges in unauthorised colonies from Rs 440/sqm to Rs 100/sqm.
Further relief provided to residents of unauthorised colonies by reducing sewer development charges as well, from Rs. 494/sqm to Rs 100/sqm ie a reduction of 80 per cent, DJB official said.
The Board's achievements list also includes the laying of water supply network in 237 more unauthorised colonies. Work will be taken up in these colonies immediately.
"Liberalised scheme was also launched for regularisation of unauthorised water connections. Earlier citizens were charged around Rs 14,000 to regularise a water connection which has now been reduced to Rs 3,310," the official said.
Official also said that one of the most important achievements of DJB, has been the commissioning of the 50 Million Gallons per Day (MGD) capacity Dwarka Water Treatment Plant (constructed in 2011) on the March 1 benefitting about 13.5 lakh residents of Dwarka sub city, Najafgarh, Daulatpur, Ujwa, and adjoining areas.
