A person lodged a complaint at the Kirti Nagar police station that he was cheated of Rs 25,000 by a maid agency, they said.
He told police that he came in contact with one Anju Placement Agency. The complainant asked them to provide a maid as soon as possible. After a couple of days, a man, along with a maid, reached the complainant's home and took Rs 25, 000, police said.
The victim obtained the affidavit, copies of Aadhaar card of the agency representative and the maid, they said.
The complainant made several calls on the numbers provided by the placement agency but all the numbers were found to be switched off. The complainant realised that he was duped by an organised racket, they said.
A case was registered on March 8.
The police team collected the details of mobile numbers from which the complainant received the calls. During inquiry, all the addresses of the placement agencies and the other documents were found to be fake, police said.
The accused duo revealed that they have a gang who used to cheat the people on the pretext of providing maids. The other gang members were subsequently arrested from Sai Enclave, Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, they said.
The accused used to provide numbers of their fake agency on websites like
Quikr and Just Dial. After they were contacted by people, they would take the money, provide the maid, who would flee within a couple of hours or within a couple of days, Vijay Kumar, deputy commissioner of police (West), said.
