The decision is in keeping with an MoU signed in February, 2010, between Railways and the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) for the building of educational facilities for the wards of rail employees and for children living in the vicinity of railway habitations and colonies, the government told Rajya Sabha.
The MoU envisages the setting up of 50 civil sector Kendriya Vidyalayas during the 11th and 12th Plan periods by HRD Ministry on land to be provided by the railways, Minister of State for Railways, Manoj Sinha, said in a written reply to the House.
Further, schools have been sanctioned for the Railway Campus at Nanded in Maharashtra, Railway Campus at Rangiya in Assam, Freeland Ganj Railway Colony at Dahod in Gujarat, Krishnarajapuram Diesel Loco Shed Colony in Bangalore, Shakurbasti in Delhi, Bandel Railway Colony at Hooghly in West Bengal, Angul in Odisha, Golden Rock at Tiruchirapally in Tamil Nadu and Rail Coach Factory at Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh.
