12 perish in rain-related incidents in UP, toll rises to 116

Twelve people were today killed in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh taking the toll this monsoon in the state to 116.

According to relief commissioner office here, lightning claimed two lives in Azamgarh and two in Barabanki in incidents of lightning and house collapse.

Three lives each were lost in Basti and Unnao and one each in Mirzapur and Sitapur districts in lightning, drowning and house collapse incidents.

Met office sources said that chief amount of rainfall recorded in cms are Katerniaghat-9 , Akbarpur, Regoli, -7 each, Amethi, Haidergarh and Pharenda-6 each.

The Met officials forecast rain and thundershowers would occur at many places over the state in the next 24 hours.

According to Central Water Commission, Quano river was still flowing above the red mark at Chandradeepghat (Gonda) and Mukhlispur (Sant Kabirnagar) though it was now receding.

Sharda continued to flow above the danger level at Palia Kalan where it was also rising and Ghaghra was once again on the surge at Elgin Bridge rising above the red mark.
